Hikes

The best time of the year to explore the TNT area near Weldon Spring is from the end of deer hunting season in the middle of January until about the end of April.  Very little underbrush obscures the hiker's view, so foundations, bottles, cisterns, and other objects are more easily seen.  Poison ivy and ticks are not problems during this time.
The most important reason, though, is the presence of blooming non-native flowers in the springtime.  Several varieties, especially daffodils, can be found in what were once the yards and gardens of homes.  These flowers, planted decades ago, make an annual statement that this area was once populated.
The GPS format used for all of these hikes is UTM/UPS.
